An opening exists on the Tancook ferry for a casual spare who will be assigned to replace permanent staff during periods of vacation, sick leave etc. When working as Captain, s/he is in complete charge and responsible for the safe and efficient operation and navigation of the ferry between specific point in coastal waters and ensures the ferry’s trip schedules are maintained.When working as a Marine Engineer, s/he operates main engines ensuring that all auxiliaries, pumps, ventilating fans, steering motors, furnaces are functioning in a safe and efficient manner. The Marine Engineer repairs and maintains the mechanical and electrical equipment on the ferries. When working as a Deckhand orMate, s/he arranges vehicles and/or cargo on deck, collects tickets where applicable, and ensures that the boat is clean at all times. The crews on the ferry work 12 hours shifts to support 24 hours operation, 365 days a year. As this is relief work, there is no guarantee of hours.
Qualifications:
The successful candidates must have Grade X plus a Watckeeping Mates Ticket, or a 4 th Class Marine Engineer’s certificate, or a Command Endorsement plus a MED, A & B. Previous seamanship experience is a requirement.
Salary Range: $12.71 to $22.84 per hour depending on assigned duties

An opportunity exists for an part-time Engineer/Deckhand, responsible to the Captain while working with a particular vessel, and while on shore to the Ferry Service Supervisor for the machinery and the Engine Room of the ferry, as well as for maintenance of the ferries.
Duties And Responsibilities:
Checks oil levels and water levels in main engines and generators at the beginning of shift,
Starts vessels daily in accordance with established schedule, Maintains machinery in a clean condition,
Reports any irregularities to the Captain and the Ferry Service Supervisor, Maintains a logbook, Ensures that the decks, stairways, bulkheads and windows are kept clean, Ensures that the main cabin is clean and free of trash, Assists the Mate as directed by the Captain, Performs other duties as assigned by the Captain or the Ferry Service Supervisor.
Qualifications:
Grade 12, or equivalent experience,
Minimum one (1) one year related experience,
4th Class Engineer's Permit (Transport Canada),
Full M.E.D. Certificate (A2, B1, B2, C, D),
Valid First Aid.
Salary: $ 36,053 As per the Amalgamated Transit Union, Local 508 Collective Agreement.
Hours of Work: Shift work as required.

Canadian Sailing Expeditions is currently refitting a 245' barquentine sailing vessel which will offer coastal cruises beginning later this year. The winters will be spent in the Windward Islands of the Caribbean, and during the summers, Caledonia will cruise Canada's East Coast. We are looking for engineers that will assist in preparing the ship for launch as well as those that could act as engineers during the voyage. Onboard engineers must have either class 1 or 2 certification, with a minimum of five years experience. Refit engineers must have a minimum class 4 certification or 3 years relevant experience with mechanical systems.

Chief Mate- Relief Position Required

We have an immediate relief required for Chief Mate for our expedition cruise vessel Caledonia. Although she is a large sailing ship, sailing experienced is not required. The position will run until September 15th, and the rate of pay id $1300 per week. During the period of the relief, the ship will be sailing in Western Newfoundland through the end of August, and then into Halifax for September.

The Position
As Senior Technical Manager of fleet operations, you will report to the Marine Manager based in St. John’s, NL and will be responsible for the operational readiness of our fleet of vessels.
